Larch trees have a distinctive feature, which is that it is a deciduous conifer. Unlike other conifers, its needles turn gold and shed in the fall.
Larch Valley trail is therefore popular from mid/late-September to mid-October, as hikers are rewarded with the sight of golden larches, against the panoramic backdrop of the Ten Peaks. Minnestimma Lake marks the end point of the trail. The round trip of the 4.3 km trail with 535m elevation gain takes 3 to 4 hours to complete. More ambitious hikers may opt to proceed further to Sentinel Pass, a 1.2km stretch with 169m elevation gain, adding 1-2 hours to the trip.
This trip isn’t restricted to hikers of Larch Valley Trail. Customers of the shuttle are free to use their time at the lake anyway they wish. Other trails that can fit within the 5 hrs time frame include Eiffel Lake Trail, Consolation Lakes Trail, Lakeshore Trail and RockPile Trail.
